IRIS Book Series

As a former foster child, I am passionate about advocacy. I wrote and independently published the non-fiction IRIS Book Series which includes IRIS Devotional and IRIS Diary. Incredible Resilience and Inner Strength (IRIS) helps the abused, and those at risk for abuse, choose self-love over fear. This pivotal decision leads survivors to the Cycle of Hope. In 2011, I earned a graduate-level certificate in Domestic Violence Prevention from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. I regularly volunteer with the Partnership Against Domestic Violence at Atlanta-area events, safe houses, and by answering the Domestic Violence Hotline. In addition, I conduct interactive Teen Dating Violence Awareness Workshops and serve as a speaker at various community events. Brand and Cause Advocate Passionate about Continuing the Organizational Narrative

Chinua Joi Ivey is a communications practitioner who focuses on engaging others through storytelling. She is passionate about the responsibility we all share in advocating for the health of the communities in which we live and serve. When asked about her communications experience, she explains, "Effective communication is an art form that can unify masses and encourage social change. I take pride in amplifying voices of those who may be systemically or otherwise suppressed".

As a victim of crime, she understands what it means to be voiceless. Chinua Joi Ivey's childhood home in Washington, DC was filled with intimate partner violence, child abuse, substance abuse, mental illness, and neglect. As a result, she became a ward of the court. She eventually aged out of the foster care system, noting that the love and support of two amazing foster families blessed her with security, stability, and most importantly, hope.

She pressed beyond the dismal past of her childhood by earning a Presidential Award from President Clinton for Academic Improvement upon graduating from high school. She continued to earn a BA in Mass Communications/ Speech Communication (2002, Bethune-Cookman College), a MA in Organizational Management (2004, University of Phoenix), and a Graduate-level Certificate in Domestic Violence Prevention (2011, University of Massachusetts-Lowell). Currently, she is studying for a second master’s degree in Strategic Communications at American University, where she was offered a merit scholarship.

As a committed advocate, she increases awareness of the risks and characteristics of relationship violence through her non-fiction IRIS (Incredible Resilience and Inner Strength) Book Series and speaking engagements. Her passion for advocacy is not limited to causes, as she is keenly aware of the importance of brand identity and corporate social responsibility. She enjoys her role as a Manager of Client Communications for nThrive, a revenue cycle management company for the healthcare industry. Through her boutique PR business, Ivey Media Agency, she is a freelance writer and consultant to small businesses and non-profits. There, she identifies, shapes, and packages stories for influence and awareness. Mrs. Ivey believes that "Every cause or brand has a story, and every story can spark change".

Mrs. Ivey takes pride in being a trained volunteer with the Partnership Against Domestic Violence, answering the National Domestic Violence Hotline and speaking or serving at local events. She is a mom to three brilliant young adults in a blended family with her husband, Curtis. Together, they reside outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
